Nervian Society are a new, Brussels-based act mining the electro and disco depths for nuggets of pure sonic gold. In a previous life, their members founded the Spector Studio in Brussels where they record, produce music and collaborate with many artists of the Brussels’ scene. Their debut single was “Club D” – released back in 2021 as an homage to the Brussels parties they ran of the same name. Now they’re coming in hot with their debut EP, Ducpétiauxlaan, an infectious, dizzying five track release that explores various shades of electronic music. We had a chance to chat with Nervian Society about their style, current projects, and future plans!
Hey, Nervian Society! Welcome to CelebMix! For those from our audience who are not familiar with you guys, could you introduce yourself?
Hey, we are D&D, we founded Nervian Society here in Brussels. The first D is the composer, producer and sound engineer of the project, he has worked with some renown artists (TTC, Dj Cam, JC de Castelbajac, Holden, Instructor, JL Aubert, Que La Suite Soit Douce, etc.), the other D crafts the unique electronic tools we use for our productions (we’ve founded the modular synth brand D&D Modules). We are the founders of the Spector Studio where we have recorded, mixed and produced many artists from the Brussels scene ranging from pop, electronic music and even hardcore punk. We are the inventors of the “Dark Belgian Disco” with our precedent band Frozen Nation. For the sung parts we collaborated with Mien Heyvaert & Flavia Clementi.
How long have you been making music for?
We have always been into music.
If you could sum up your style in 3 words, what would you choose?
Disco, Pop, Emotion.
Congrats on releasing your new EP DUCPETIAUXLAAN – come you tell us more about this record? What inspired you to create it?
This EP has been entirely recorded, mixed and produced here at Spector Studio, our recording studio, the name of the EP is the name of the street. Ducpétiauxlaan is a tribute to electro music, disco, pop and even synthwave.
The EP featured five exceptional tracks, do you have your favorite one? Or one you are most proud of?
Very proud of “Elegant Ride On“ – it was very fast and natural to produce.
You made your production debut in 2021 with “Club D,” how is DUCPETIAUXLAAN EP different from your first release?
Club D was created to be played during our DJ sets, maybe the songs on this EP are more pop and explore different universes.
You are based in Brussels, could you tell us how the Belgium electronic music scene is different from the rest of the European capitals?
Electronic music in Brussels and Belgium is very important and it has been so for a long time, Belgium created the New Beat from the late 80’s as well as the big night-clubs of 2000 people entirely dedicated to this music. Brussels is the European capital of electronic music.
You collaborate with many artists of the Brussels’ scene, including Flemish French-speaking Pop band Que La Suite Soit Douce, and electro-prose duet The Cultural Studies. Who would you like to collaborate with in the future?
We would love to produce Reggae Music.
Are there any artists in the scene right now that are standing out for you and why?
Dabeull with his electro funk is very interesting and he is a nice guy, Dance Divine and her androgynous show is very trippy.
Please tell us about any exciting news or plans you have for 2023!
We are preparing a live set with samplers, sequencers, modular synth and vocals, and also our Dj sets, the big party will be in Brussels 16th February at Cellule 133 to celebrate the release of Ducpétiauxlaan.
